All the steps are the same so you can follow the steps from any KDX conversion to do the swap on a KX500. Ron Black ( RB Designs) can press the stem and supply the spacer for you for $67 or just the spacer for $36.
The CR has much more aftermarket add-ons available, and it is easier to find. The KX is butt-ugly IMO. The KX500 has a PWK carburetor (the one thing better than what comes stock on the CR500) The CR500's carburetor still works great, and is easier to tune than the PWK's are.

Oct 17, 2002. #3. A Pro-Circuit pipe would be a downgrade, not an upgrade. I bought my '89 KX500 used, and it had the PC pipe on it. It ran like it had a sock in the muffler. Slow and mello. I put the stock pipe on, and it scared the heck out of me. (The 89's did not have the heavier flywheel of the '93 and newer 500's.)
